LIVE EDGE
The curves at the table edge are the cypress tree's structural response to terrain and prevailing wind. All trees are essentially cantilevers, and the "petals" or "knees" of this cypress (often referred to as western red cedar) are an adaptive strategy to help strengthen the tree's anchorage.

WHY NIMBUS CLOUD
Cypress trees thrive in wet, loose soil, making them better suited than most tree species for growing along the cool rainy maritime slopes of the Pacific Northwest. A nimbus cloud is a cloud bearing rain.

SOURCING
The cypress is reclaimed urban salvage wood. It has been diverted from the waste stream for re-use.

CRAFT
birdloft prides itself on its exceptional craft. Every piece is made with meticulous attention to detail and knowledge of how wood moves and breathes.

FINISH
Wood is finished with locally produced teak oil and Osmo. Steel finished with clear matte enamel.

AIR DRIED
The cypress has been allowed to air dry. Some checking (cracks) are there, as well as perimeter-to-pith checks. The checking is associated with the shrinkage that comes with drying, and has stabilized. The structural integrity of the table should endure for years with occasional oiling, etc.
