Roughsawn fir sanded smooth on book surface to bring out the figure and grain of the wood. Edges hold the raw imprint of a sawmill blade or similar patina and evidence of work and time. Finished with locally-produced tung oil and beeswax.

Steel is cold-rolled 7/16-inch diameter steel with u-turn feet. Preserved with clear matte enamel unless beeswax is requested.

SOURCING | VARIABILITY
Please know that the wood varies with each furniture piece - the etagere we make for you will not be exactly the same as shown in the photos. But the reclaimed roughsawn fir we source shares a commonality of tone and patina, heft and grain. We only work with wood that has been sustainably salvaged and is the beautiful old growth variety from when the forests were deep and wild, loud with birds and quiet.

EBONIZING
The wood is ebonized using a natural chemical reaction that occurs between tannins in the wood when brought in contact with iron acetate (steel wool and vinegar). This natural black has a depth to it, with the red undertones of the wood still coming thru in the sapwood, knots and other places.
